My factory warranty is about over and I am still debating the ESP. I have heard there are very little problems with these trucks. Just need to replace the coil packs\plugs and that is about it. My concern is basically fear. With the air bag suspension that comes with it, the NAV and 3 young boys.. the later being the most concern. I am unsure if I need it. Example, the middle boy broke the power lock on the front door.

Any words of wisdom here. It is a 2010 with 33,000 on it so far. Outside of the lock and the front drivers seat that had track issues... no issues with the truck at all. (Factory tires sucked, but that is not what is covered anyway)

Thanks.

I say, as long as it is the Ford one and not one from another place and if you can afford it, I would.

I took the extended warranty right from the get go back in 2007 upon delivery. Power this, power that, a/c seat, heated seat, DVD, power lift gate, let alone the power train, all things that had me nervous enough to splurge for the coverage. Already used it on 2 coils, some trim pieces and even a fog lamp lens. Only out of pocket so far was the coil replacements($100 deduct). I'm still to the good until 2014 or 100k, it's my peace of mind.

I think that it all depends on the price of the coverage, what the deductible is, what it covers and how long you realistically plan on keeping the truck.

These warranty companies make a ton of money. They don't do that by paying out more than they take in.

It may make you really happy that you didn't have to pay to fix that power seat for $500. But you need to remember, that you paid a few thousand dollars to have that happy feeling.

Whatever you decide to do, ask a lot of questions. Is it refundable if you sell / total the truck? Detailed coverage, deductibles, service locations, etc. Don't take anything for granted.

Thanks for the input.

This is the family vehicle as well.. so it needs to be working as much\long as possible.

I had the dealer throw in an ESP (from Ford) when I bought my 2008 used last year. The dealer gave me the top of the line ESP with only $100 deduct. The truck had issues witht he front window regulators and the auto climate control. Fixed for nothing. (Selling dealer reimbursed my $100. ) When the truck had a rattle and reapiring dealer diagnosed an exhaust manifold issue, I only had to pay $100, and I had them fix some other minor stuff - all covered by the ESP.

I recommend buying the highest level of coverage you can aford - Ford ESP only. When dealer quotes you a price, offer half of the quote. The price is highly negotable(sp).

I have never got one after buying a vehicle so I don't know if you can haggle the price down. I bought my Expy in February, it was a demo and I told them I did not want the ESP. After them dropping the price a few times I finally got interested and was able to get a 100,000 mile 6 year bumper to bumper Ford ESP for about $600. At that price you have to do it, so I would definately try to haggle.

That is something else to remember, the prices on these warranty packages are negotiable.

Also see above: notice how happy the people who saved $300 or $400 on repairs are. Also notice how no one mentions that they paid $3000 for the coverage. And some paid WAY more because they financed it with the vehicle.

Since tony brought it up, just figured I'd share that, YES, it was financed into my deal when rolling off the lot. However, it only changed my payment by 8 bucks for a total of about $650-$700 on the deal. I can sleep better at night knowing I'm covered from Ford for 7 years or 100k and I ave just a 100 buck deductible. $8.00 a month was worth it to me.

i think by 36k and no real issues, if you keep up on maint you dont..or hopfully wont need it.

my grandma always buys chryslers, i know different brand..ect but same kinda deal. they buy new and always get the 7/70 chrysler extended warranty. they have done this on the last 4 cars (1984,1991,1999,2006) the only one that they actually used the extended warranty on was the '91. on both the 99 and 06 it has been all but a waste as neither car ever went in for any kind of warranty repairs.

its up to you, however i would not do it. rather save alittle every month in a account and have a "oh crap" fund. money better spent IMO.
