My 2019 that I purchased mid November 2019 started to open its back hatch on its own. Dealer found it was a bad Body Control Module and it’s been almost 3 weeks waiting for Ford to approve replacement and sending the part to the dealer. Is this the norm with Ford? I’ve never had a problem getting dealer repairs on warranty items with my other non ford vehicles. Just wondering if this is routine in other people’s experience.

I ordered and purchased a new 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4 in 2015. This was my first Ford after buying GM and Dodge vehicles for more than four decades.

At delivery, the painted LF wheel opening molding was loose and crooked. The seat cushion cover for the LF seat was coming apart and the optional winter mat package had a huge bubble in the LF mat (as if you placed an upside down soup bowl under the mat and molded it in that shape).

I had to return the vehicle to the dealer’s service department (took delivery on a Sunday)

The service advisor said they would repair the panel, but he had to take a picture of the mat and seat defect, and send it electronically to Ford, to have the repair and replacement approved.

The repairs and replacement were approved, but this was the first time in more than 40 years that I had a selling dealer service department tell me that they couldn’t approve a repair or part replacement without getting approval from the manufacturer.

This is one of several reason that I’ll never buy another new Ford.

I think Ford is ensuring compliance from Dealers when repairing or replacing warrantable items. Maybe they were burned too many times by unscrupulous replacement requests under warranty? When my 3rd brake light (in the spoiler) went bad and led's were burnt out and water was inside the dealer had to take pictures and send to Ford first even though it was clearly defective and should be replaced. It took a few days for a reply and it was replaced.

Then again, how many times have insurance claims been initially denied, before eventually being approved ? (worked for two large/national ins. companies)

why did you accept the vehicle? I would have told them to call me when it's ready, then gone home. If there's a concern over a signed contract, I might have called an attorney then.
But that aside, I'm really curious about why you accepted it as it was? A brand new vehicle with loose body parts sounds incredible to me.

PS - good catch, by the way. Despite my claim above, I'm all too likely to assume my brand new car is perfect and hop in and drive it away. If i even did a walk-around, it'd be out of sheer pleasure from looking at my new car.
