It's not a simple swap. The weight easily overwhelms the front suspension, so it has to be beefed up to F250 levels.

Do a search, we have discussed this quite a bit.

seriously thinking about doing this in the future, but on a 1st gen. so some notes. body lift should help!

I know of a guy that put a Dodge I6 diesel into his 97 F-150. Like was mentioned, not an easy swap. Granted, he got over the weight limitation because he SAS'ed the front of his truck. But, like was mentioned, if you go with say a small I6 or an I4 diesel, then you will be golden and not have a big issue. If you are looking at even the 6.0L diesel, you have a lot of other modifications other than just the motor to worry about.

i want to do a 6bt but its a little big. and the 4bt is a little under powered. but o well. the mpg is amazing and i think with a few mods it would be worth it. bigger turbo, more fuel, and ill be golden.
