Distance till empty and mpg resets everytime shut off

I have a 98 Eddie Bauer expedition every time I shut it off the mpg resets to zero and makes my distance till empty completely wrong. The gas tank does have a dent in it but the problem started months before the tank was dented. Has anyone else had this problem.

Check fuse #2 and #6 under the dash use a volt meter to test the fuses
