DIY for Fuel Filter?

My 2003 Expy has sprung a gas leak from a housing apparently the fuel filter on the left side of the gas tank.

Anyone else know anything about the fuel filter breaking or "coming apart" next to the gas tank and leaking gas everywhere? I am in need of a DIY for the fuel filter.
