Wheel spacers can either work fine, or be a mess. Your moving each wheels geometry out by anything from 1-3 inches. These SUVs are designed to have the rims at a certain distance apart, that's why they design the offset, and width at the factory. The goal is to have a tire/rim combo that can support the weight of the vehicle with up to 8 people, and possibly pulling a heavy trailer. By taking a 4 wheel combo dimension, say 80 inches, and make it 86, steering and ride are going to change. Normally a wider wheel width should increase cornering prowess on a vehicle, at the cost of quicker steering. But, by just popping on spacers, rather than a complete wider suspension, so many variables can happen. Now as far as his ride getting worse, that's also understandable, your taking the load that's absorbed by the tire/rim/shocks, and moving it to a farther spot than factory designed. People don't realize that a lot of the ride quality is from the tires, and rims absorbing the harshness. Don't believe it? Pop on a new set of quality tires on your SUV, and see how much better the ride is. Well that's my take, I'm sure I'll get bashed or get likes, but like ole blue eyes sang, That's Life! That's what all the people say!
