Door Stripe Bubbling

We have an '04 & the black stripe on the door, where the keyless entry pad is, is bubbling and peeling. We got estimates from Ford and Maaco to replace and it is $500. Ouch. We tried to sand down and do it ourselves, but it looks awful. Is this common? Are there cheaper parts places? Has anyone successfully refinished the aluminum stripe? Thanks.

yeah i have the same prob...i have an 04 and i was quoted $400 when i checked into replacing it a few years ago...i am just going to get all the window sills PTM...that will be hot!!! or you can look into buying the chrome sills from ebay or where ever...

Had same problem on my 04. Simply removed the black door stripe, by prying out with a small screwdriver. Applied paintremover, which removed everything and left shiny metal.

Sprayed on one layer with primer and then a couple of coats with black spraypaint. Can`t tell difference from the others
