Hey guys still didn't find what might be the noise I'm having, maybe someone ran into this before. I would appreciate any help to find out what it might be.
This strange thing happens with my truck, not every time I drive it, but some times. When I am stopped at a light and then press on the gas, truck shifts fine from first to second, but form second to third, when I get at around 30 mph my truck makes a weird loud noise, like a drilling sound or an air compressor running, orlike a roar or a growl, like it revs up or maybe even like a engine brake on a semitrucks. When I press the break and then press the gas pedal, the sound is gone. It doesn't seem like transmission is slipping, it still shifts fine, just this noise that's driving me insane. And it doesn't do it all the time or for w long time, just for like 2-4 seconds. So I can't record it, because I don't know when it might happen and I don't want to have my arm out of the truck and recording every time I drive the truck. Any idea what this may be? It is an 03 Expy, 5.4L, 2WD.

Keep the windows closed and don't go over 30 MPH. That should stop the noise

Sorry couldn't resist

No. It just happens once in a while not all the time, and it's jus for couple of seconds, so I don't have enough time to pull my phone out and record it. And I don't know when it might happen. It's really weird.

Your condition might indicate an early audible warning from your transmission. Planetary needle bearings might be on the way out. Replace your trans fluid and check the old one carefully for metallic particles.

Thanks for the advice doc, but like I said I don't hear, see or feel any trans problems. It shifts smooth in all gears, And when applying gas pedal, there's no jerking or nothing, everything is smooth.

I found this video on YouTube, that's kinda the sound my truck makes, but not all the time, just once in awhile and for a few seconds, and mine sounds faster then the truck in the video.

We really can't give an accurate diagnosis without hearing the sound you are talking about. The video you posted has the sound of a rod knock with the tablet I'm using.

If you are able to gather more facts on when this occurs, such as:
Engine rpm
Exact mph this is happening at
Is it in-between shifts or at a shift point
Trans fluid condition
Does the sound have a metallic tone to it
Does it also do it with o/d off etc.

Can you pin down a bit more where the location of the noise sounds like its coming from?

It sounds like from the engine compartment by passenger side somewhere. My wife was driving when I took the video, I was in the passenger seat, so that's the side I was recording.
