Driver Door Lock Problem

hey im new to the forum. I have a 2001 expedition xlt.and i have a problem with my driver door lock. It unlocks and locks fine, but when i close my door when its unlocked the lock falls to the locked position. what could cause this.. any info would be great Thank You!!

sfc1963, from the sounds of things, your latch mechanism is binding up some and it is pulling the lock shut as the latch is closing. I would first try spraying a bunch of WD-40 into the latch and then see what you end up with. May end up replacing the latch.

This all stems from the fact that Ford latches have a feature built into them that when the locks are locked and you are inside of the truck, when you pull on the door handle the doors will automatically unlock. In your case, this feature is sticking and as the latch closes, it pulls the lock down.

no its not electronically locking i know for sure... i tried WD40 and it made it worse! haha. everytime i lift my outside handle the lock goes down. and if i pull the lock back up i can barly touch the top of the lock and it will fall back down to the locked position
