Dual Battery on a Second Gen?

Hey guys,
Have any of you with 2nd Gen expy's installed dual batteries in the engine bay? With the plow setup it draws a large amount of current and I want to make sure I don't kill the single battery or alternator. It just doesn't look like there's enough room. Unfortunately I should have thought of it a couple weeks ago since I just bought a new battery which is the stock size and I have a feeling I need two smaller batteries.

Anyone who's done it?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for a battery isolator? I'd like one that connects directly to the terminals if possible.

i plowed for 5 years on the single battery and stock alt in my '91 f-250. after my mini-restoration i added another battery next to the factory one. i know the bays and battery mounts are totally different but i turned mine from horizontal to vertical which gave me enough room to run both.

honestly though, you should be fine running your stock battery/alt. i installed boss plows for years on every kind of truck and even a van you can think of.

It can somewhat handle it. I had a k5 before this and ran a single battery but went through 2 batteries over 3 years. Plus I just replaced the battery in the expedition.

The difference between my setup and most plow guys is I run dual blades, front and rear. So I'm basically always running one or the other plow when I'm in a driveway and my driveways are close together so not a lot of recharge time. A lot of draw on the battery which I can notice after a while.

i'd love to see a back blade on a expy! pics if you mind? i'm kinda plow geek...i love winter, nothing better then a huge storm and spending hours and hours in my truck.

running both and whatever warning lights you have you are correct your pretty much at your limits.

I can get a picture but you'll have to wait until october when I pull them out of storage! I'm pretty sure I've seen your truck before over on plowsite?

I plow snow because it's easy money, never really enjoyed it that much though! This last winter was the worst with the 2 foot snowstorm we got that shut down most of the state, many broken trucks.

Here's my k5 I just got rid of. Backblade is custom build and so is the one that's on the expy.

Ross, going to a dual battery setup will only benefit you if you like to run the radio for a long time with the engine off. IF you are having issues when driving down the road, you have either too small of wiring between the battery and amp or the alternator is too small for what you are running.

send me some info and I can tell you where your problem most likely is. Also, are you running underdrive pulleys? That can affect things greatly.

Yeah I've seen that tray before, just don't want to spend over $100 on a battery tray and then I'll need to get 2 optimas which aren't cheap either. Thank you for the recommendation though. If anything I'll fabricate a new tray.

You can try a capacitor too. When I was big into the car audio scene I ran capacitors to take some of the load from my subs. Helped quite a bit with headlight dim.
