Hey guys,

I was just wondering if there was any way at all that my 01 xlt with the 4.6L has a 22 gallon gas tank in it? Everything I have found says that it should be a 26. Thanks for your help guys

not unless the original owner put one in. only way you will know for sure is to run your tank dry and fill er up! should only cost about $100+.

yeah about that 100 bucks

I have ran it down to just at the empty mark and the low fuel light comes on. I have topped it off twice now from there and it took 20 gallons to fill her up. That is why I was thinking it was a 22 gallon tank. I gues next time it gets down there I am just gonna put a gas can in the back and just drive her til she runs out on me and find out that way.

Thanks man

If it were me i would believe what you have found since if you run the tank dry you run the risk of killing the fuel pump!

And the truck is made to lie to you for that reason and so you can make it to a station.

From my experience, the Expy has about 4 gallons of fuel left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on. So, if you add that in to what you are filling your truck to, then go from there. Also keep in mind that if you fill the truck on a slight incline (ie, nose of the truck up), you will loose 2 or so gallons of possible fuel fill due to a large air void that will form (these trucks have a long, slender fuel tank).

Expy's never had a 22 gallon option. It was either a 26 (4.6L motor) or 30 gallon (5.4L or a 4x4 4.6L motor).

hahhaahha- I work for AAA and you'd be surprised how many people run out of gas, and EVERY ONE of them "were gonna get off the next exit and get gas"

Or..
Their gas gauge doesn't work, even on a 2012-LOL

Welcome to the group and the only dumb question is the one not asked....If you have a owners manual it will say it in there....I just got a owners manual of e-bay complete with the zipper case for 20.00 and for the correct year and a XLT....I will look and see what mine is...but all your fluid levels are in there as well.
