well i have had my E fans on for a little over a month..

my set up consist of two 10" pusher fans that come on with the A/C only each fan pulls 8 amp's and both are ran off of one 40 amp relay

on the inside i have one 18" puller fan that is activated with a thermal switch at 180 degrees, this fan draws 15 amps and is also wired into one 40 amp relay

the main reason i put them on was to help keep the A/C cold in stop and go traffic and it works well at that.. down in the Tri Cities on a few occasions at over 100 degrees the A/C stayed nice and cold in heavy stop and go traffic

a few times at night all 3 fans were running and it didn't even dim the head lights, i thought it would so i am happy with this..

there is more power that is noticeable in the seatometer and pulls hills a little better,

i have tracked the fuel economy very closely and came up with 1.3 mpg gain on my avg which is great, it the day to day use of the car that will equal about 3 daus more driving on a tank, not huge but any gain is awesome..

i will post pics up in a few days as i am having camera issues

If anyone is near MD and wants some help, let me know. I have done this mod on my truck and it is well worth every dime spent on it. While I am only running dual 14" fans, that is more than enough for what I need and do.

i want 16s cause it gets pretty hot in the desert and east san diego. not much difference in the 14-16" but its enough to where i want the extra air.

I dont want to sound like an idiot but, are you talking about replacing the existing fan in the truck (the one right behind the radiator?) with an electric fan, because i'm pretty sure he was talking about putting in 3 fans??? what does this do for you and how do you do it
honestly on a scale of 1-10 (1 being I cant tell my ass from my elbow, 10 being highly trained in it) I'm about a 1 maybe a 2 lol

you can do it with a little research. its not that hard. maybe 4-5. 6 if you run into problems. what it dose is it takes away that boat anchor, the fan, and makes it electrical driven. sell strain on the engine and give you more power.

Expeditionary, it isn't hard. LIke Panda said, probably about a 5 on the hardness scale. Granted, a lot of it depends on your mechanical and electrical abilities. BUt, having someone with some overall knowledge of how to do things and it is easy to get done.

As for benefits, the power gains are not amazing by any means, but you can plan on gaining about 6 hp and 8 ft-lbs or torque (slightly more if the fans are not needed). The nice thing about this power gain is that it occurs over the whole power range. Not just at the high end like most motor mods give you. So, you will definitely feel the difference from right off the line.

the fans im using are TORQFLO... and i went with 3 fans so if one fails i still have two that work, i don't want it over heating when my wife has it full of kids here in a month or 2 with school sports starting up...

i should have my camera back this evening and will post up some pics of how i did it

about the lot from summit and jegs the cost IIRC was in the $500 range...

my set up with everything was $120 that is another reason i went the way i did

we were down in the Tri cities here at night and the temp was 105 and both pusher fans were running and the engine got hot enough to turn on the bigger fan for 3-5 minutes at a time in heavy traffic

2000eb, I can't say that I can really recommend any from there. For what they are wanting, the prices seem awfully high to me. But then, it has been many years since I installed my setup. In short, what I recommend is a setup that has dual 14" or dual 16" fans. The big thing you want to look for here is a combined 3000 CFM of air movement. In your case, going a little bit more is probably a good idea due to your temps unless you don't run around with your A/C on.

As for the controller, this is going to be key with making a system that lasts a long time regardless of what you put the truck through. The cheapy controllers are a wound wire setup. They are cheap and work great for the first few months. After that, it will be a gamble. So, spend a little bit more on something that is worthwhile. What I mean by worthwhile is a controller that has a metal bulb that you stick into the radiator (you have to move a few of the small metal fins out of the way, but it slides right into the radiator) and then it has an adjustment on it that feeds an electronic circuit. Normally these have a built in relay too. just make sure that the relay can handle your fan(s). You are mostly worried about the current draw.

This is where some may differ with me and I will explain my logic here. I say to run 2 fans and 2 controllers. Obviously, 1 fan will be controlled by 1 controller, the other fan by the other controller. Yes, this is going to cost you a little bit more money. But, at the same time, a single failure is not going to take out your whole cooling system. You will always have atleast some cooling (ensures you get home without requiring a tow). This also allows you to get an idea of how hard the truck is working as you can see when each fan kicks on and you can adjust how you are driving based on having only 1 fan running, or two. This also gives you an idea if you are having fan issues too.

I personally recommend Derale fans. They are compact and seem to offer some of the best air flows available. With this being said, you can probably get away with say a single 20" fan. That is your call. The big thing is getting your 3,000+ CFM of air flow.

walnuts, if you are ever back in Maryland, let me know. I need a reason to run up to the northern end of Baltimore. I live an hour south of DC. Pretty much, get on the south side of DC and drive down to the point of Maryland (the area between the outer coast and Virginia). I'm in a small town called California.
