the plastic subwooferbox on a 2002 is actually pretty nice, except for the fact that to replace the speaker you have to go with one that is 3 1/2" deep or less. the box is actually 5" deep but with the thick plastic bulge where the oem speaker magnet bolts to the back it is 3 1/2". anyways my ideal to solve the bulge problem is to heat the plastic with a mapp torch till it almost catches on fire and then press it in to match your new speaker clearance you can then strengthen it with a backer plate and gorilla glue. I believe this method would be easier to make air tight than actually cutting the bulge out. i ordered the jbl gto 8" wich is 4 3/8. i couldve bought an ssl with 3 1/2 depth that would fit right in. but i thought it only has one 8" I might as well make it a good 8".
also the factory amp does have a 5volt remote on, instead of the normal 12v. so if you replace the factory deck you pretty much have to replace the amp too or else buy a 5volt voltage regulator transistor
