Easy way to turn off interior lights when rear hatch is open.

I'm sure it is answered somewhere, but here is an easy way to turn off interior lights when the hatch or window is open. Just turn the knob and pull to remove. Works on hatch or window.

Why don't u just turn the light off at the light by putting in "off " position or turn lights off at light switch...no brainer to me

Unfortunately, it wouldn't work on my 2000 model.

On the 2000 opening anything turns on all the lights inside and the running board lights. I've been looking for a way to do this and this seems easy enough.

Well that's the same for my 04...can u not just do as I stated on the rear light or on the dash?

You can shut off the cargo light but the rest of the interior lights stay on. Nothing seems to shut off the damn running board lgihts.

My cargo lights stay on if the window is open even if the light switch is off. They stay on no matter what if the key is on, or they eventually turn off 15 minutes later if there's no key. Playing around with the light switch doesn't effect it what's so ever.

mine will stay on for 45 minutes.
used to pull the fuse when tailgating for extended periods of time to prevent battery draw over time.

Now I'm wondering if the switch is a neutral break or hot break. I may put a switch in and mount it on the back panel so when the tailgate is open I can switch it.

For the 2000 model the liftgate and window ajar switches are wired in the ground circuits

At some point the lights will eventually switch off right? Anyway we can install a rheostat of some sort so we can change the timing? maybe decrease it to 30seconds or something

So, when open the switch makes the ground and turns the lights on. Should be easy enough to add a switch in between the ground and switch to always be open (off) should you so desire.

I sometimes leave the rear glass open in the garage for quick loading in the morning. Or just hanging out and tailgating. Had to buy a jumppack because it kept draining my battery, didn’t always want to take out the fuse and frick up my fingernails lol.
