Hi, new to the forum! Glad to be here and found the site while searching for a power running board solution. My drivers side running board on my EL has quit. It looks like all I need is a new motor. What is the difference between the short wheelbase motor and mine? Can I rob parts of mine to make it work? Ford want $1900 for the part and no luck at local salvage yards. Thanks in advance!

The running boards are stupid money, Ford wanted $1,000 for a pair of fixed boards for my EL.....even old rusty ones on eBay sell for $400/ piece. I said f*ck it and bought cheap aftermarket ones and I normally never do that. I absolutely refuse to pay $1,000 for junk plastic that costs them $25/ pair to make. Rant over. Check Tasca Fords website, they are usually good on price and they’ll have you put in your year and trim to find your exact motor.

It is a 2011 EL. The running board is fine. The front motor broke a bolt off and even a machine shop couldn’t get it out. The hinge is fine, I just need a new motor

Some on here have gotten aftermarket motors off Ebay, Amazon, or whatever. As I remember less than 100 bucks. I'm having trouble with my driver's as well, but it works intermittently. I'll just have to spend some time cleaning and messing with it one of these days...

I have a 2008 EL and purchased just the motor unit from eBay for $60 new, it has worked perfectly for 2 years.. I would suggest doing the same thing.

It was not listed as being for an EL, but it fitted and worked perfectly.. the EL step is a bit longer and must weigh a bit more than the regular expedition step, but the extra weight doesn’t seem to have made any difference, I don’t know if ford sells 2 different motor units for a standard or EL version, but at $60 it’s cheap enough and easy enough to change at a later date if it does fail.
