First time user of the site and I was just wondering if any of ya'll have heard of problems with the 03' Exped.? Specifically, I have had the following:

1. Driver window auto down feature sometimes doesn't work
2. Driver window won't roll down unless engine is turned off/on
3. Radio shuts itself off sometimes
4. Annoying squeak from second row seats
5. Insane amount of brake dust from front rotors
6. Burning smell after engine shutdown (might be from brake dust but no sure)

My Exped has about 12,000 miles but has been doing most of these things since about 4,000. Haven't talked to dealer yet as most of the problems are hard to re-create.

Thanks

I have an 03 and have not experienced your problems 1 - 5. However, I have an ongoing dust storm from my front rotors. I guess the extra large discs give more dust.

The burning smeel will go away after a while. its the coating on engine components and other stuff thats on a new car.

I have an 03.

My burning smell went away too.

I have a squeaky second row seat.

I also have the brake dust. I asked service about brake dust and they said it's normal. He also said to keep the wheels clean or the clearcoat on the rims could be damaged.

I have also had a front end rumbling problem. This was fixed with a TSB.

Do you think Ford Service will fix the squaky seat? I wonder if there is a TSB?

No electrical problems yet. It is a FORD you know. I guess we have that to look forward to.

Squeaky Second Row Seat

The dealer can easily fix this...

The sound came from loose bolt on the foldable second row seat. Bolt is located near the folds (lever). You can do it yourself with a allen screw. Good Luck

Now its silent as a wisper.

My 3rd row seat was squeaking. Dealer replaced seat frame and seat track.

There are updates about the Brake Dust here.

I have an 03 with 35K miles.

This weekend while driving at highway speed the electrical system failed and the motor shut-off. Vehicle was towed to dealer.

Dealer blamed remote start system (installed by ford dealer) as problem before even looking at vehicle. Said remote start is not their problem. I told them to remove it then.

Dealer has since verified remote start not the problem, but does not have an answer for me except "parts are on order"

"Parts on order" is the same as "your check is in the mail" and "we are from the government, here to help" :D

Elctrical problems

The dealer replaced the fusebox connecter as it had a loose and burned wire??? also replace the power train relay.

All seems well but I am concerned about another blackout..

2003 has left me stranded three times since July of 2003. When I go to get in the car, it won't start. There is a buzzing noise that seems to come from the glove compartment. When towed to a dealer, they fix a different electrical problem each time. Surely, there is something wrong with my electrical system. This is a 2003 with only 30,000 folks. Two out of the three times I was stranded at night with my two children. I am especially angry because my car was just towed again tonight with the same symptoms.

Buzzing from fusebox

Djanuary,

Same problem I had. The buzzing noise is coming from the fuse panel.... It is mounted below the glove box in the kick panel...
I have not had a repeat of the problem since they replaced a loose connector in the fuse panel.... and replaced the relays which were making the noise. FYI... It took them a week to figure this out....
