Noticed engine coolant is just at the min line when cold. When I add it, do I need to use just concentrate or pre mix? Don’t wanna screw anything up and not familiar with which to use.

None of the above, anywhere between MIN and MAX is good

If adding just a tiny bit, use distilled water, no chance of incompatibility there

I had to replace all my coolant. I used the Prestone concentrate and bought some water to mix it. Being in VA, I wouldn't sweat adding a little distilled water to it, but if you want to keep the boiling point up and the freezing point down by keeping the right ratio you can buy the 50/50 and add it straight. You won't hurt anything.

Either one works. Pre-mix is ready to pour; you'll have to add water to 'concentrate', usually its a 50-50 mix. You can mix it before you add it or not.

If you're at the cold line when the engine is cold, you're good. Don't do anything.

Thoughts on putting Evans in our Expy’s? Either V8’s or the EB equipped Trucks?

Our trucks use the Ford orange coolant, which is technically exactly the same as the GM orange dex cool which is easier to find in 50/50 premix.

My ‘18 has the yellow coolant. I think there were some problems with the antifreeze in the builds before Jul 18 and mine was built in Aug 18 with the yellow stuff......

I got one, just didnt know if it needed to be pre mix or concentrate, or just add some distilled water to the reservoir. Thanks though!

Always stick with premix 50/50, no question later down the road as to your mix ratio that way.

Its going somewhere.......

The best way to refill when its "way below the min" is to wait until the engine is cool (overnight), then take off the radiator cap and fill the radiator right to the rim. Replace the cap, then fill the overflow tank to the FULL COLD mark. Keep an eye on the reservoir each morning, filling it to cold mark. This way speeds the removal of any air in the system.

Of course, if you have to keep adding fluid over and over, you've got a leak somewhere.

Well I’m sure there’s no leak as I have no smells or spots on the driveway or anything like that. Looking back at the workorder from the day we bought it last summer, the only fluid that wasn’t on there marked as “changed/ topped off” was the coolant. I topped it off in the reservoir so I’ll just keep a close eye on it. It’s been sittin for 32 hrs and was reading pretty low below the min cold fill line. I’ll keep updates as to anything else I’ll need to do to it

Don’t be so quick to eliminate a leak as a possibility. Our EB trucks leak coolant at the turbo coolant lines. They are plastic junk jiffy tite connections and the o-rings deteriorate and leak. You won’t see coolant drops on the ground at first. You’ll just notice a faint coolant smell every time you get out of the truck. If you climb underneath you’ll see wet coolant around one or both of your turbos. My drivers turbo blew and was replaced but the coolant line was also leaking and was replaced at the same time. Now my passenger side turbo coolant line is leaking. There are aftermarket stainless hoses you can use to replace the plastic junk. But I can’t point you to a source at the moment. Keep it in mind though if you find you’re needing to top off your coolant. For reference, my Expedition is a 2015 with 125,000 miles.

Yeah I keep an eye on those lines as Ive seen older EBs with this issue. Mine are all good to go. I’m thinking it was just never topped off prior to purchasing. I filled that reservoir 3 nights ago and every morning after letting it sit, the line is right to where I filled it

X-3

Might consider getting oil analysis (if not doing it already). If the coolant is getting inside the crank case, bad things will happen in short time.

Sadly, NO! Stick with the OE mix.

I asked Evans about use in the Ford EcoBoost and it will coke due to the turbo setup. Specifically, after motor shut-down, the turbo design allows coolant to continue cooling the turbo. IIRC this is called thermal siphoning.

The Evans coolant will not support thermal siphoning, will get too hot, and coke.

Too bad as I am running Evans in other vehicles with good results.
