It's to reduce manufacturing costs, but did that reduce the cost every vehicle by $22?
So, they reduced the material cost, but maintained their profit margin in the face of increasing labor costs. The UAW signed a contract with Ford, GM, and Stellantis in 2023 that gave workers a significant pay increase over the life of the contract. The cost of that engine cover went into some UAW worker's pocket.

I get it, completely. It's a losing battle. same with the quality of these cars, you have to reduce costs by reducing features and quality and in turn just try to maintain profitably due to rising "other" costs.

More likely it went into some managers bonus.
