engine wet - misfiring

cleaned engine compartment with a hose - now engine is missing on at least one cylinder

starts and runs, but misses

what got wet to cause this?

i am taking this 98 eddie bauer in to trade it - has 92000 miles on it - mint condition with no problems until i tried to clean it up a little

any suggestions?

You should be able to remove the spark plug boots and dry them out with air.
If not, then a diagnostic scan tool will count misfires under special test.

check out the following as well. I recently had a misfire on the #4 cylinder (passenger side- rear plug) of my 99 Eddie Bauer (5.4 litre). I bought an OBD II scanner which diagnosed the problem. It was cheaper than bringing it into the dealer plus I now have the tool for future use. I then spoke with a friend of mine that works as a technician at the local Ford dealer. He told be to check the heater core hose above the # 4 cylinder for leaks. He said this is a common problem. Sure enough, that hose was leaking on the coil-on-plug and caused the thing to short out. It may be that when you cleaned your engine you shorted out the same COP that was already on it way to going bad. If you end up replacing the COP change the plug as well. To fix the leak (if it is there) simply place an extra hose clamp on the fitting and make sure both are snug. The plugs set pretty deep in the heads and are a bear to change but worth your time. I used the factory plug (motorcraft platinum).

I cleaned my 97 exp with a power washer before the summer. It started mis firing right after I did that. I had to replace the Spark plug coils. They said that if water sits on top of one then it will cause the coil to short out. When they replace the coil make sure they replace the boots on them also. My dealership didnt replace them and the short jumped for coil to coil so i ended up replacing 4 of them. Make sure not to wash the engine any more, hope this helps.

You can get them at advance or autozone for about $139 or less. The little cheapie thats like $79 you probably won't be happy with
