Well, 70,000 miles, lots of A/C use, and it's now smelling musty when we start up. Has anyone used a cleaner to clean the evaporator in place?
Looking for some tips.
Thanks,
I'm pretty sure the dash would need to come out to clean the evap itself but I've never attempted it
I know detailers typically use an ozone machine to kill smells like that. Im sure they can be rented but I think that would depend on your area. I would try an ozone machine before pulling the dash
I use a mist of Simple Green sprayed into the fresh air duct. Set the ac on outside air & fan on high. Spray as much as you want, more is better at getting the crap out. Really bad units get a pump garden sprayer. Just make sure the drain line is clear.
Stamp beat me by 25 minutes, Simple green is my choice too. Smells nice, cleans real well, and disinfects too I think. Used it yesterday on grease stains on my home carpet with a brush. Nothing else worked, this product got rid of the grease. Good stuff!
