I have a '99 5.4 Expedition with 150K. I had to have the passenger side cracked exhaust manifold replaced. I took it to Midas and they did the work last week. On the way home the Service Engine Soon light appeared on the dash. I took it back they cleared it, then the light returned again on the way home. They scanned it and found error code 1131. They say they did a visual inspection of their work to see if it was installed properly. The only thing is -- they can't fix it. Today, they asked me to take it to a Ford Dealership because they couldn't solve it and the error code 1131 is a mfg code they can't easily resolve. I want them to resolve it because it only showed up after their work on my car and i don't feel I should go pay someone else to resolve what is probably something related to their work.

This is still a peaceful issue between us and I am simply trying to help them find the clue they need to fix it so I can avoid additional $$ at Ford. By the way, today I noticed the gas mileage is even more in the crapper than usual. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing happened to me when I had to replace my manifold studs. I think I finshed off my O2 sensor with all of the PB Blaster I used to get the studs out. I got my new O2 sensor at Advanced Auto Parts for $43 IIRC. It was a little tough to get to but it's definately a do it yourself job.

Problem solved

Gonna give a lotta props to Midas of Stamford, Ct for fixing this for me. I gave them the lead on the O2 sensor, then they ordered the part, replaced it for me, and charged me nothing for it. I've driven about 150 miles and the problem appears fixed. They said that when they replaced the exhaust manifold, it smoked so much after they installed it with the paint burning off, that it could have fouled the sensor. They had already checked the wires and connections on a previous visit trying to resolve this.
