Hey all, I called a local muffler shop recently because I'm wanting to straight pipe my expedition with dual tips at 45 degree angles out the rear. The guy said he doesn't know if you can do that due to the IRS. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, is there a way I can just cut the muffler off myself. Thanks.

Yeah you can just cut it out and put something else in its place. Did that with mine and just used a glasspack. Only way I have seen duals on the newer trucks is if the pipe goes underneath the IRS. Look for a user named knautical2001. He has done that to his truck.

they way the shop would want to do it...no you cant and they are right due to the IRS...HOWEVER...if you dont plan on doing any off-road stuff and staying on the street (like me) they will have to go under the IRS...this has been done to a couple of trucks on here and search "knautical2001" and he has done the very thing im telling you...it is his signature pic...this is the only way unless you remove the spare tire...

i wouldn't see why you would want to. i just cut out the muffler and put in a flowmaster 40 series, and put on a nice 4" stainless tip and called it a day

I got a 40 series single with 20 inch chrome tip coming at an angle off the passenger side to eliminate some of the noise..it sounds good and has gotten deeper
