Hi all,
Sorry if this has already been asked. I am in the process of buying a 2009 Expedition Limited from a Ford Dealership. They have all of the paperwork from the maintenance schedule and Carproof says there was only the 1 owner and never accidented. The truck has 77,000KM on it (about 47,000miles). The original owner bought 4 years of full extended warranty and there is 6 months/20,000KM left on it.

The dealership wants to sell me another 3 years of extended warranty (the full one that covers everything). It's really expensive though, it will cost me around $4,500 for the 3 years according to my calculations.

Is it really worth it? The truck is pretty clean and I already have the 6 months full coverage. Are these trucks extremely solid? what is the usual lifespan of one? Can I get it up to 250,000KM or more? What are the usual big problems after 50,000 miles if any?

I need to decide today and tell the dealer to keep it or remove it. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated :)

That's too expensive for a 3 year warranty imho. Way higher than I have paid.

You know there's certainly a huge $$ on this for the service writer \ finance guy that's trying to sell it to you.

You can buy this on your own after the purchase and pay for it as fast or slow as you want to wo having to finance that amount.

Call your bank\CU and ask them if they have any contact info for 3rd party companies and call them yourself. You might be able to get your own rate and contract at a much cheaper rate and still have the bank\CU tack it on the finance, this is the banks call not the dealership.

I agree with the Captain. The price you are being quoted for the extended warranty is way over the top.

Also, if you are worried about not having a warranty, consider the powertrain only warranty. Of course, these vehicles are pretty stout in the powertrain, but the warranty may cover any issues which may arise from previous owner problems. I have had that save me on other used cars for which I purchased powertrain warranties.

Note from my sig that I am on my third Expedition. We drive them to about 95k miles before trading. My current Expedition has had more problems than any of the others, but they are bad shock absorbers or accidents (darn thing seems cursed - 3 accidents in under 2 years, only one our fault). Honestly can't recall anything more serious than a battery going bad on any of the three Expys otherwise.
