I am having trouble towing. When I plug in a trailer it causes problems with my message center. I can no longer see my average fuel mileage, trip odometer, miles to empty, ect. I thought it might be a problem with the electrical system on the trailer, but the problem happens no matter what trailer I hooked it to.

Over time the display comes back to normal. I am going in Tuesday to have the dealer look at it. Anyone else have this problem?

Just out of curiosity are you using an adapter for the 7 way rv to say a 6 way standard plug?

I tow enough and have never had this issue. To me it really sounds like a bad ground or fault in the wiring on the trailer side or in the trailer harness.

To be honest I am not sure. I am pulling a car trailer. The problem happens with my car trailer or a friend of mines trailer. Because it happens with two different trailers I am looking at the truck as the problem.

It has been over two weeks since I pulled a trailer and the message center in the Expi is still not working correctly.

Sounds like a fuse or short somewhere. Try checking the voltage at the trailer plug and see whats going on. Also there are two ways to wire brakes on trailers and one can be the wrong way depending on the trucks wiring.

Let me know what you find out after your dealer visit, gtncpa, along with your year and mileage. I'll check out some options. :)

Sorry for the off topic question, but where does the factory brake controller mount in a 3rd gen? As for on topic obviously check all connections, wiring and fuses. Also might need a flash to handle the brake controller. Not sure but heard somewhere that they need to flash your ecm for the factory unit to work 100%. Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

My brake controller was fixed by Ford yesterday. There was a TSB for it, I will try it with the trailer today.

I have a 2014 Expedition with 13,000 miles. The dealer said there was a TSB for the brake controller. They did not tell me what it was, (even though I asked) but if you can find out and post it, it can help other Expi owners

Just took mine in for the same thing. Dealer performed TSB 14-0036. Haven't hooked/unhooked trailer yet, so not sure if this is the fix...they said it was, but you know how that goes...
