I took my 2018 Expedition Max 302A to a local upholstery shop and they added 1/2 inch of foam to the seat bolsters and installed stiffer foam on the bolsters. The factory foam was junk and the seats were so flat they weren't overly comfortable. The upholstery shop said even with 28,000 miles on mine that the drivers seat side bolster foam was already significantly wore from getting in and out of the car/seat. They cut all the factory bolster foam away and built them up with a stiffer foam and built the bolsters up 1/2-3/4 inch more than the factory thickness and they are MUCH MUCH more comfortable now. Even when it tries to bobble-head on stupid bumps the seats actually hold me in place instead of needing to put my arms out to stop that BS. Well worth the $250.

For what its worth, I'm 6Ft tall and 180 lbs...... My wife said they are much better as well. Coming from her Navigators 30 way seats, my Expedition seats were an absolute joke in comparison. They are far better now. I'd take pictures, but really they don't look a lot different visually, its all in the feel!

They only reworked the bolsters, right? With heated/cooled seats, there is probably no practical way to add more seat cushioning (which would also be nice) w/o impairing those operations. Where we live, seat cooling is way more essential than heating.

Yes, they said they couldn't touch the part that's heated and cooled. They built up just the bolsters and it actually helped a bunch. They aren't great, but they are much better.

I have a 15 year old daughter learning to drive. On a recent road trip, I was in the backseat while she drove for about 5 hours. Upon returning to the driver seat, I couldn’t believe the difference.

So what I’m trying to say, if you want to feel better about your driver seat, spend some time in the rear seat.

Hey Deadman, good deal at only $250 for such an improvement! Are your Expy seats the Multi Contour or the standard seats? I am kicking around either an Expy Platinum or Navi with the 30 way seats for long trips and seat comfort may be the tie breaker between these 2. 2022 models may have option of PHEV.
Which would you buy brand new for the best seats? I know everyone has a different opinion but you have both cars. I’m 6-2 and 250 and my Explorers are sort of comfy for 10 hours..

Let’s see some pics.

My wife can't feel a additional 1/2 inch (lol), so I'm sure you guys won't see an additional 1/2 inch. lol.
I'll get a picture, but being black it won't look like much difference.

The biggest thing is the higher quality firmer foam they installed after they removed all the soft factory garbage. They said the side bolster foam was already significantly broken down just from getting in and out because ford used such soft cheap foam in them. They cut it all out and replaced it with high quality foam and its a huge improvement. Its only got 28,000 miles on and the seat foam was failing on the edge.... They couldn't add any thicker foam or else the seat cover stitching would fail from being stretched too much.

@Deadman Did the $250 cover all the labor to remove and replace the seats? Just curious. I know it's not difficult. Did they have to rip seams anywhere on the seat to replace the foam?
