With that said used 17 expedition are still priced high. 40k to 45k for a low miles units. Why do you think people aren’t buying them? I really hope you are right so the prices will get lower. I appreciate any insight on this. Thanks

Seriously!!!! What makes you think people aren't buying them? You have no proof to back up that statement

Let me do some leg work for ya. This truck is somewhere in Iowa. Not sure if close to you or not. 17 EL XLT with HD tow package, Sync 3, etc with 9K miles for $34,500. The 18 model version of the same truck is easily $20k more than that. I don't think the 17's are priced to high I think you're to cheap

I would buy that vehicle however it’s a 2 wheel drive. Thank you for your input.

They kept saying in North America, are they selling elsewhere? Also the standard sales car with many companies is the Fusion. I've worked for 2 companies in the last 10 years that lease thousands of them.

I guess they must let them go with lower profit than trucks and SUVs.

Maybe they need the manufacturing capacity for the new Bronco? I can only hope.

On this site buyers have no issue laying out over $80K for a SUV. If they can make $10 to 15K in profit for each one of these sold vs $500 per unit of the fiesta (just guesses by the way), it makes sense.

The Fusion was the number one selling vehicle in UK and Ireland both for several years, but the model was known as the Mondeo. I haven't checked in 2-3 years though.

the main reason they are doing this is they are putting all (most anyway) their eggs in the autonomous vehicle/mass transportation effort

they are going to be cutting a LOT of existing jobs in the process while adding some new ones in other places

Autonomous vehicles is a tough sell, most consumers do not like the idea. I will never own an autonomous vehicle, even if that means I have to keep an expy rolling for another 50 years lol.

Autonomous vehicles is a tough sell, most consumers do not like the idea. They have killed a few people in the last few weeks some running pedestrians over in the streets. A Tesla also killed its driver on autopilot recently. I will never own an autonomous vehicle, even if that means I have to keep an expy rolling for another 50 years lol. I like to drive, and will not have that taken away. Sure human error contributes to accidents, but human error is life... at what point are we no longer living?
We will see what happens with self driving vehicles. Thats for sure. Its coming.
Cadillac Super Cruise is already here for hands free interstate driving.

It reminds me of when I installed the first PC in my fathers small business to automate inventory, work orders, and shipping (1985). The ladies hated it and almost refused to use it. My Dad had to order them to use it. Then I showed them how it prints shipping labels, you just enter the quantity of them you want. It would print them out and the ladies did'nt have to use a typewriter to make them. All of a sudden they loved the new system! SOLD

yeah I know. I am in the industry Ford is in my backyard. I worked there for 13 years. I hear about this stuff all the time.

I think they are crazy too. My kid is an engineer there. They are all worried about their jobs.

Our generation isn't going to be buying them anyway. They probably wont be in the main stream for at least 20 years

They definitely have a long way to go they’ve killed a lot of people. The last few weeks alone a Tesla killed its driver on autopilot and a few have run over pedestrians in the streets. I get human error but human error is life..... and we enjoy driving. Plus a lot of the new tech assists the human driver anyway.... but nothing beats a safe driver that pays attention. One of our biggest issues is the darn devices. Idk the young crowd seems to enjoy driving too. We will see.

driving will never go away. but as time goes on less and less will be sold and with the imports leading the way in sedans the market will just keep slowly shrinking. Ford is just trying to look into the future and taking a gamble to survive in the long run

besides , thought we were supposed to be in flying cars by now LOL

I hate the thought of autonomous vehicles. My 21 year old son loves the idea.

I can only speak for myself, not anyone else ... but (especially as I get older) ... I know I have gaps in "paying attention" and making the right pilot decisions 100% of the time. I might like to have a computer that can see if every direction at the same time and is communicating with all other cars on the road in real time evaluating the situation and guiding the vehicle.

I believe there are about 100 motor vehicle deaths a day in the US.
Autonomous vehicles will lower that number, not a bad thing.

I wonder if they are working on a version of a self driving car where you drive it, but if you mess up (have a heart attack for example), the car steps in and takes over. That would be cool.

I do get that side but there are gaps in their logic. Your car will not have the ability to communicate with all the other cars in the road.... those classic mustangs and Camaros aren’t talking to your car......nor is my expy. And those vehicles are still going to be running around. Also a computer doesn’t have the decision making skills a human does i.e. crash into that pole do not hit the person in the road. There is a guy in town with a Tesla, he likes it but always drives it himself.

Finally sensors, they fail....ALOT..... parking aids, lane keep assist, blind spot, they all fail quite a lot in my experience, so who’s to say the autonomous vehicle doesn’t face the same problems.... is it really any safer?

Full autonomous as I said I have an issue with. Systems that alert the driver and slow to a stop if driver is not paying attention are not full autonomy. That being said if the car is semi autonomous would it be easier to let my attention wander until too late to take over? After watching the video of the pedestrian killed by an autonomous test vehicle that seems to be what happened.

I dropped my kid off at school this morning a little later than usual and got stuck in the exiting traffic.

Three lanes stopped at the light on my side of the intersection. There were 32 vehicles waiting at the intersection.
TWO were cars, all the rest trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and vans.

So Ford may not be too crazy after all.

I have noticed that at locations as well. Cars as a whole are not practical. I have owned them years ago but never again.

Cars got smaller and less practical. SUV/Crossovers got smaller and filling niche cars did. Then there are people like us who just go big.

I agree, cars have definitely shrunk. Real American cars were big and utilitarian unlike today.... they’ve lost practicality they once had. I’m growing to appreciate classic cars much more as time goes on.... they just had character and their own identity. Today it’s like they are all carbon copies, and that’s because they all share platforms and parts out of the same bin.
