Hi all,

First post here, but wanted to share in case it helps others.

I bought a used 2017 Exp EL that only came with one key fob.

I used the post below and was able to program 2 additional fobs I got from Amazon without having to erase any codes.

So instead of having to go to the dealer and pay ~$300+, I was able to do it for $30 (VLinker ODB/USB) + $12 (forscan license) + $48 (2 third party key fobs).

Also tried to post in that forum, but my registration isn't approved yet.

I'd like to introduce myself as a new member to the expeditionforums, and my experiences from this key programming process. I would like to thank all of the previous members and their documented journey with this key process it has been extremely helpful.

I have a 2016 EL Limited with 1 key in hand but 2 stored in the truck's system.
I have a 2019 intel mac with VMware fusion and windows 10 along with FORScan and the 2 month temp license.

I have found numerous posts, miata.net, forscan.org forums, youtube videos, official ford documentation regarding PATS programming, as well as forscan, crossover/wine, windows and MacOS guidance.

My biggest takeaway is that I followed the Ford PATS/RKE dealer aid report, specifically Procedure IA #3(file attached).
This process failed me 2 times, approximately 10 minutes elapsed, and only 60% on the progress bar.
It ended with an alert:
“Spare keys programmable:Enabled
Do you wish to disable the spare key programming?
Yes or No”

I selected no and yes, both ended the key programming process. Hindsight: I think i shouldn't have played it safe by selecting the spare key program option those first 2 times.

I then restarted the process with the primary Ignition Key Programming option within FORScan, that process worked like a charm.

For my situation Vgate Vlinker OBD cable, did not work for me at all.
OBDLink EX worked on the first attempt,

Also amazon, SUPALAND, store key was successfully programmed as well.

I'm super happy that I'm all in for $90 and I have a programmed key, plus a saved trip to the Ford dealer.

I know these acronyms confused me at first and so I’ve posted them below, as well as the links to the products that I’ve used in my specific situation.

RKE - Remote Keyless Entry
IA - Intelligent Access
PATS- Passive anti theft system
