I have not been able to find an answer anywhere nor have I been able to find a 2nd gen Expedition to check this on. Is it possible to shorten a 2005 Expeditions wheelbase 25"?

well...I'm in the process of making my own vehicle like I want which involves a shortened more up to date suspension under a Bronco II(either a 2003+ expedition or 2003+ explorer).

Sounds like a project and half. Why not stretch the bronco to fit the frame or just up date the Broncos suspension. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have access to all the welding tools, lifts, scrap material. It is much easier for me to chop something and weld it back in place then fool with a suspension.

Anything can be done if your equipped to handle it. Ever watch fast and loud? They modify cars/trucks all the time. Are you going to cut the frame and install different vehicle axles underneath? Or are you just shortening and install same front/rearend?

Just shortening and keeping same front and rear. The reason im asking is all the pictures ive been able to come across I cant really see where there is a straight section long enough to shorten it 25". Not trying to get myself to crazy deep into this project. Hoping for a simple cut and re-weld job. Never watched "Fast and Loud" but I shall.

If you really have the will and motivation then it is possible, I think it would be possible to eliminate the rear doors, shorten the frame, exhaust, drive shaft, weld suspension brackets in new locations and do some sheetmetal work for appearances before paint and you have yourself what a bronco could've been in 2005. I highly doubt this is an expensive project but you bet your sweet little ass its gonna be more time consuming than saving up on 401k for a retirement in the near futire...

This is (one thing) that makes America great! All the craftsmen and home garage builders who can fabricate anything they want. This is by far the greatest country this planet has ever seen.

Hopefully the only thing I’ll have to shorten is the drive shafts. But yeah it’s going to be a pile of work with probably a lot of unforeseen headaches but it could be worth it. Working on finishing up my motor for it then I need to find the t-case and tranny. So semi soon I’m going to need a frame to mount it all to!

See me, I would want to go the other way, take say a 53 Studebaker pickup, extend the cab, to maybe 24-30 inches longer, put in new style comfy bucket seats, AC, posi traction rear end, 4 wheel pizza sized brakes, 13 inch all 4, a little more go power, say a stepped on v10 Ford mill, with the new 10 speed auto. Nice fat 295/50/18 sticky tires on killer wheels. That's a Sunday cruiser.

That sounds nice! Not really making a Sunday cruiser, more of a adventure mobile/medium hauler/daily driver. Been rebuilding an engine and wanting to put it in something so i've been brainstorming on what and this Expedition idea is the one I'm liking best constistently.

So you don't have a rolling frame yet? What about the Bronco body?

Nope no rolling frame. Looking at a 2005 Eddie Bauer with a blown motor for $650 but dont want to pull the trigger on it until I can find out for sure what all i can realistically do to the frame. Owned a 86 Bronco ii for a bit till i sold it for money for a motor. loved the interior and exterior of that little thing just wish it was stouter underneath and engine wise.

For $650 depending on the rest of that 05 I'd be snatching it up quick. You can probably get almost that out of it in scrape weight.
