After the vehicle is warmed up and I stop the front wheel bearing will clunk once and if I back up and stop it will clunk once more and then again once when going forward. The mechanic believes that it may be my front wheel hub(s). Any thoughts

If the bearings are that far gone, you should also hear some clunking when you hit bumps. I'd also expect to hear some pretty loud growling coming from them at speed.

It could be brakes, or a few other things. The only way to really know is to get it on the rack and start poking around.

I had a clunk like that, and it was the brake pads moving in the caliper. It was missing the small aluminum cap that goes on the top and bottom of where the pad and caliper meet.
