I thought it was above the tank where the fuel line exits the tank. I think there is one of those Ford Quick connections on it.

....but in the SSV, it just ***ISN'T***.
Now there IS a fuel filtery looking thing underneath(ish) the engine block by the passenger side front wheel well.... but no fuel filters on any frame rails

I looked at a couple of videos, and they all correlate with this one:
Top-front of the gas tank. Does your replacement filter have the two lines in, one line out like a normal 2009 Expedition filter?

if you do take this on yourself, either now, or after Blue Oval, the procedure I've used to relieve fuel pressure is to start it, disconnect the fuel pump reset (passenger side behind the kick panel on my old '97) and let it stall. I also pull the fuse to my aux fuel pump that feeds the fmu for the supercharger.
my experience with the clips is to just go slow, steady pressure and the a/c line tool works just fine and sometimes it's the one that's just a bit smaller than what you'd think to get the clips to release.
I also put the dust caps from the new filter on both ends of the old filter prior to removal to keep the residual gas inside; a bunch of paper towels or shop towels are a must as there will be spillage. dry everything off real good in addition to evaporation.

fordparts.com has this exploded fuel system view on the fuel filter part listing.
It should definitely be in the back by the tank and EVAP canister from the looks of the diagram…
Searching for the same part for a 2010 yields 0 results, so it looks like 2009 was the last year for a non-integrated fuel filter, as the service manual for my 2012 says "part of fuel pump" in the fuel filter part listing. It's possible that since yours is an SSV that it was built later and doesn't have one either, I would punch your VIN into fordparts.com and search "fuel filter" and see if anything comes up.

Found this online...." it depends on the trucks build date, up to 9/15/08 the fuel filter is located on the side of the fuel tank and it is serviceable, after 9/15/08 the filter is part of the fuel pump and is not serviceable"

Does it last a lot longer, then? Or is it high time to change the entire fuel pump (I'm @ 175k mi)?
