I thought the fuel filter was in the tank!
There's a sock filter before the pump.

The pump is in the tank as well as the filter. The manual for my 2011 EL states "Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuel filter that is integrated with the fuel tank. Regular maintenance or replacement is not needed." Why would they say that if there was something else you would periodically need to replace?
Could someone post me a picture of this "sock filter"? I have a 2011 and I am at my wits end.....2 Ford Dealers contradicted themselves and first said it was a $65 replace....then said O no, it was a $600+ fuel pump/ filter replace. Then, I was told by someone else....that the 2011 was the "change over year" for the fuel filter going from being on it's own, to being in with the fuel pump. That without looking at it, it couldn't be confirmed which one I have.
Blessings,
Amy
Thank You so much.
My husband is a mechanic in the Army and hasn't had time to look into it for me because of Army training. I have been having trouble with stalling on low idle.
Only when I have to start/stop frequently in traffic and when going around 5-10 mph...such as in a parking lot. Other than that, there are no issues at all.
I idle as low as 500 RPM.
So the Hubs and some other guys in the Motor Pool all said that it had to be the filter OR the Idle Speed Control.
I have no engine light and even the diagnostic tool at Auto Zone can't pull up anything. It is do for Spark plugs too, that is on the list.
I purchased the fuel filter already.
I called Ford today because I was hoping to get my hands on a diagram. First I was told $65 easy change to that it was "impossible that I purchased a fuel filter for my 2011 because they don't exist. That the filter was part of the pump."
Never heard of that one. What is a fuel tuneup???
Crawl under the truck on the driver side and look for the fuel tank. I can't remember if the filter is in front or behind the tank. But if you look around the tank you'll see a silver canister with hoses connected. That's the filter that needs to be replaced. The sock filter only needs to be replaced if the pump goes bad.

Had my 2014 on the lift today so I looked for my fuel filter. I could not find one (at least not what I was expecting). So I looked in my owners manual and it says that 2014 has a life time fuel filter in the tank and should not need replacing under normal use.
Check your manual.
