Greetings all.........
I managed to replace my fuel and air filters as suggested by my local Ford service rep to eliminate a slight hesitation I was having under slight load at highway speeds.
Drove it for the first time over Thanksgiving.....1300 miles round trip. The first 300 miles were through heavy rain from winter storm boreass. The Expy stumbled and bucked if I had to pull up a hard grade, so I feathered the gas pedal to avoid the hesitation/bucking. The next several day were dry and we arrived home without so much as a hickup.
Let me get into the fuel filter change......it went well. The only issue I had were the 4 plastic clips on the 2 outboard lines. The black and white clips broke......the blue one was missing and the red one came out in pieces. I was able to replace the white and black ones....Advance had those in stock. The red and blue ones were not replaced. Called the dealership and they told me I woujld have to replace the lines to get the blue and red clips....DOH!! Long story short....service manager said that without the red and blue clips the fuel lines would suck air and water if not in place. Is this possible??
When we got back I ran the Expy over to Advance to read the codes.....NO CEL ever came on during the trip, but there was an error message that the fuel pump had a malfunction. I explained the above to the Advance guy, who is a experienced Ford 5.4l owner, and thoght I needed those clips that I was missing.
The 2 fuel lines will run about $300......My thought was to cut the 2 ends off and replace with barbed fittings, some fuel line and band clamps. Do you think this would work? have any of you done this? It would make the next filter change much easier.
Let me know what yall think..........
