I took my uncles truck down to winner ford today. He borrowed my truck and called me frantically saying there was something wrong with my truck. Low and behold the exhaust separated before the muffler.

Check your exhaust clamps they like to rust apart and fall off.

Although many aftermarket exhaust company's claim to add horsepower, mostly an aftermarket exhaust will only affect the sound. Even if you do manage a gain any hp, it would only be on the high end of acceleration, and in return you lose some low end acceleration.

Recently added exhaust

I replaced my muffler three weeks ago. Got the Mangnaflow 18 inch. The shop was concerned that the sound was too mild. Seems that expy's have a much larger resonator that the F-150s. It has a low rumble at idle.
There is a nice growl as the vehicle accelerates. I have driven it on both city streets and highways. No droning at all.

Several people say they notice that my expy now sounds "not quite stock but not hot rod-ed with a muffler". This is what i wanted. If you want more sound or you are younger than 30 you might go for the 13 inch model.

As to the exhaust flow, it is much improved. Engine is more relaxed. The following week i did a Gott mod. Doubled the feeling of the exhaust muffler without a sound change. Gas mileage is up 2 mpg!

pushing 50 and i prefer not to set off the car alarms. I will borrow the kids mustang with 40's if i feel the need. That's why there are so many mufflers for you choose from.

Hey Walnuts. Post a vid with sound when you straight pipe that expy. It would be fun but with emissions laws around here no one can get away with that.
