ey here's a question. I want to store fuel inside my Expedition, securely strapped to the back seat via hooks and ties.

However I'm concerned about leakage and fumes. I don't wanna blow myself up or die from exposure to the fumes. And Florida gets quite hot.

I've been researched various jerry cans and have stumbled on the Wedco 5 gallon can.

People are saying they store a few of these inside their trucks with no issue...

Thoughts and input are appreciated.

I personally would never chose to do that. I would purchase or build mounts on the outside of the truck if I felt I needed the additional fuel. It is not worth the risk.

I agree, but there has got to be a product on the market that is safe to store inside the vehicle...

I guess I could buy a rack and strap them down on it...my concern about storing them outside the truck is someone stealing them...since I plan to fill them up, treat them with a gas stabilizer and then not rotate them for 6 months.

I understand your concerns completely. I would weigh both options and go with what you feel is best for your needs.

I have owned several Jeeps and never had any issue with anyone taking my Jerry cans. But, you never know!

Considering the fact that my Expedition has been forcibly broken into just 6 months ago, I'm kinda on the paranoid side.

And I live in a good neighborhood, but I do travel alot for work, so I end up local hotel parking lots which is sketchy.

I'd be more worried about the expanding fumes inside, as well as these fumes igniting. I have a can of gas in my garage that is supposed to self vent, and even then, it still builds up quite a bit of pressure when I let it vent before using it for the lawn mower.

Why do you feel like you need a gas can? Do you travel a lot? I haven't lower the spare in a while to see, but maybe you could fit a can in there. I'd be decently save since you need the lowering key to lower the spare. You could even strap it to the rim so it doesn't move around to much. Just a thought.

not sure of your reasons for wanting extra fuel...

I would mount the spare in the rear cargo area similar to the excursion, the open space under the vehicle could house a race style fuel cell. I have seen as small as 4 gallon tanks up to 16 gallon.

guess it depends on why you need it and how you need to access it.

Inside, no freakin way! Get one of those racks that go in the trailer hitch.

i agree with boomer. i would never put fuel in the truck. just askin for problems. they make a carrier that goes in the hitch that is a very good product. use that to transport your fuel. if you are at a hotel for the evening, maybe then just put the cans in there for the night but i wouldnt travel with them. just my opinion.
