Wondered what type of gas mileage fellow '18+ Expy owners have been getting. I've had my '18 Limited 4x4 non-Max for just over 1 month, mostly city driving or very short freeway runs, drive 34 miles/day to/from work on 2wd and I'm barely getting 15mpg, normally around 14.5-14.9mpg (on new, properly inflated tires). Since the sticker says it should get 17 city / 22 highway or 19mpg average, I'm somewhat surprised mine is so poor, but I drive aggressively, so there's that (and I speed!). The best mileage I got was driving 65 freeway miles home from the dealer, I averaged 18-19 doing 75-80 most of the way, which is better than my '16 Explorer got! How about others?

PS - 10 years ago I had an '08 Expedition EB 4x4 and got about 14mpg average, so the '18 isn't much better. That was when gas was $4/gallon so a tank cost $100 (ouch!). As much as i loved it, i had to sell it as money was tight then.

When I drive ours (2018 4x4 Max LTD) around our house/work I get around 17. When my wife drives, she gets around 14-15. It seems to make a huge difference if you stay off of the turbos, but the gas pedal is 2 position for my wife...

You should search the forum for existing threads on MPG. I can think of about 5 off the top of my head.

Here is a screen shot of the MPG for the life of my 2018 Navigator. The last fill up had a bunch of idling and forest service road driving so it’s not representative of typical around town driving. 17-18 is typical for around town, 21-22 for highway, 11-12 when towing my overland trailer. 7BB3F714-5369-4EB1-93D6-902A87BEEDCB.png

18 XLT Max FX4. Living in a hilly area which gets stop and go traffic during rush hours 60% city 40% highway. Averaging 14.8. I really don't know if it's good or bad or average. Definitely not good tho.

What app is that? I still use a paper log book from office depot.

I have 26000 miles on my 19 Limited Max 2wd. My lifetime average is 18.5.

Exactly like mine. It has 6,000 miles since the average was reset and it currently says 19.0 MPG average. It gets a bunch of idle time, so that doesn't help it any either.

This is the one I used for the screen shot. It does maintenance on intervals you can set up and also record repairs as well as multiple vehicles. I have my small gas engine maintenance schedules in there as well as several cars... very handy.

12k on my '18 Max XLT. Mostly city driving with occasional 80 mph jaunts on the highway. My average is 18.8 (but I drive like an old geezer).

Remember this adage: It's Eco or Boost, can't have both.

‘19 Max Platinum with tow package. Took a trip from MI to Tennessee and back recently. Computer said 21ish MPG, but when I calculated it I came out to 19ish. 75 or so, 4 people, and 2 suitcases so not a heavy load. Average is sitting right at 17 before that trip; which raised my average a little. I generally do 45-55 MPH travel in a suburban/rural area with a highway trip or two thrown in per week. I work from my home office so not daily commuting.

I thought gas pedals only had 2 positions! LOL!

2019 4x4 MAX. ECO mode (which must be set at every start, NORMAL is default). 89 octane. Driving conservatively, gentle accelerations, 18-20.

2018 Limited, coming from a 2003 5.4. Towing and aggressive driving delivers similar mileage. 3.5 eco has better acceleration and tows easier. It is way more “fun” to drive. The big difference is with conservative driving we can get some great economy. Keep your foot out of it and don’t speed on the highway and the Eco boost will get more than 10% better mileage than the 5.4. 21-22 hgwy routine. We reset trip 1 at every fill to monitor mileage. Displayed mileage averages 5% over actual.

I have about 12K miles on my 19’ Max Platinum w/ tow package. In the city I’ll get about 15 and on the highway 18 mpg. Full disclosure I have a heavy foot, much more boost than eco :driver:

This is all with 93 octane, if I use regular gas, oh Lord does my MPG drop. Maybe 10.5 city 14 hwy.
