GEM or SHIFT RELAY

I know this has been kicked around on here before but, I have never read a definitive answer to my issue.
I have a 97 EB all wheel drive. After loosing all of my transfer case selection options on the dash ( lights) I have no shifting of the transfer case. No codes are thrown. If I disconnect battery or pull fuse # 15 under dash it resets. Everything works. ( lights on dash, transfer case shifts normally ) It is fine for several days or even weeks then it starts all over again.
My question is, am I resetting the GEM or the SHIFT RELAY or something in the shift motor? Or all of the above. Which one is timing out.
I have checked all plug connections between GEM and shift motor for corrosion. All look good. I sprayed with electrical cleaner & used dielectric grease on connectors. Nothing has made ant difference. It's so intermittent.
If the GEM is in question, I have the impression it controls several things in the vehicle. The transfer case problem is the only that is rearing its ugly head. Everything else works fine.

Thank you for the prompt reply. All the way from the Philippines no less. Technology is great until we have issues with it. That's where I'm at with my expedition.
Your info is very helpful. I will follow up with you on the results when I get the opportunity to work on the problem. At the time I am 2000 miles away from my expedition.

Found cause for malfunction. Changed relay under dash board above radio. I noticed after pulling fuse # 5 and reinstalling, the relay was going spastic. Not sure what's inside but assuming contacts. Most likely burned. No way to service so I found a replacement on ebay. Working normally at this time.

So your problem wasn't the GEM
