I have a windshield leak, and for some reason when it snowed for the first time, the gem got wet apparently, but I've driven it through heavy rain and numerous car washes and never had a problem with the gem, the windshield has had a leak for a few months now. I'm concidering my options. Is it necessary to replace the gem and fuse panel? I let the expedition sit for a day or two and now everything seems to be normal, I'm going to get the windshield resealed next week, but if I removed the gem and fuse panel to hopefully let it dry out over the weekend is it possible that they can still be functional? What is everyone's opinion on this?

Maybe, maybe not. If you can, put them in a ziploc bag with some uncooked rice.

I'd use some dielectric grease when you put the GEM back.

lol were you being sarcastic with the plastic bag and rice? lol jp.

No. Unless you have some dried dessicant bags, rice will work. Especially if the location of the bag is somewhat warm, the water in the GEM will turn to humidity and the rice will absorb it.

Look up Water damage recovery for cellphones, it's the same concept and what I used to do for a living (repair cellphones, not mess with rice).

I have saved 5 of 6 cellphones this way that were either submerged or left in the rain.

Also, water doesn't hurt electronics unless it's contaminated (distilled is best). We regularly submerge populated boards in water as a final step to manufacture. You just don't want to apply power until they are totally dry.

Thanks for the advice. I thought you were messing with me for a moment. I'll give that a try.
