Well. Glad I found the forum. I have read pretty much every thread over the past couple of days ithe 2nd gen caegory. Very informatonal. We finally decided to sell our 99 tahoe and bought an 03 expy last week. Right now it seems our mileage is pretty much at 13.6 city or hwy. We would rather put out some money now on aftermarket products to save some money in the long run. After reading the posts, Weve noticed the edge CS is a pretty good product. So we are thinking of picking up that as well as a cat back exhaust. It seems Magnaflow makes a good product. We already installed a K&N air filter which went in the factory air box. Whats your thoughts, Money be better spent elsewhere? better products than what i have listed? I would love to keep it under 1500 if possible for all mods as that will buy a crap ton of fuel. We are already planning a 3" lift and coil conversion. Just have to wait on issue to arise so i can justify the purchase. Plus hopefully strutmasters can figure out the kneel down issue. I need to figure out if the raptor wheels will fit because i do like them. The stock wheels on our expy look like plastic. I really dislike them. May see if body shop can paint/powdercoat them until we get the lift and can fit a bigger tire.

Sorry, still kind of new to this though with terminology. I am still old school on most stuff. Tuners are a very new thing to me. When you say custom tunes, do you mean Custom programming? Can this be a one-time tune that a shop can do for me?

Welcome! And you are correct! It is a one time tune unless you add other things to the engine like cai, supercharger, etc.... In order to take advantage of future upgrades you would need to get a new tune.

Ok thanks, I will check into that. On the topic of air suspension. Is it possible to do a 2.75/3" lift without the conversion or will it throw the air ride for a loop? I may bite the bullet and convert though and go ahead with the lift for my wife. Only if my current suspension has any kind of resale value to help cover a bit of the conversion. I know it has a 6 month old compressor and two new bags in back. Surely i could sale them for a hundred or two for the whole suspension setup. Whats sad is I can't drive it because of no license for medical reason. LOL

I seatrched the website this morning. I thought it was just me not coming up with it. So plans will change. I will do some research on the ones you mentioned. I have 75 days before I can use one anyways. I assume they plug into the diagnostic port. We just plugged in the progressive snapshot and have to leave it in the port for 75 days. That will give us time to get other mods done first. I have quite a bit to do to the interior as well. Installing 4 screens and a nav unit. Setup an auxillary battery in the back. And install a couple wdtv live boxes with hard drives. Gotta keep the kids happy. Gonna find some usb charging ports to mount up for cell charging. Also trying to decide between bull bar or wraparound. Of course most will have to wait until we sell our tahoe.

hey kgreenjinx. first let me say welcome. second, my works at progressive and she told me that you need to make sure that you have it in writing that you can remove the device. you can track it online through your policy or wait till you get notice from progressive. the 75 days is an estimate, not exact. she also said that if you look at it online, you can see everything the device is tracking including stop and starts and how many miles you went. just some info.

Welcome!

I would recommend against a custom tune unless you plan to do some heavy mods to the motor. It is just not cost effective. You would have to have a good tuner and have it tuned on a dyno or track etc.. to take full advantage and you would likely still not come out much ahead over basic performance tunes available by edge, sct, etc.... There is just not that much room for improvement over the base performance tunes.

Based on reviews here I would likely go with the edge cs you mentioned if I had a stock or near stock expy.

Thanks SG, Really glad to be in the presence of such a knowledgeable bunch of folks. I am hoping it will be shorter than 75 days, but if it goes longer, oh well. Its worth it to save on insurance because with 3 young kids in the car, my wife is a pretty cautious safe driver. The only bad part is the OBD port is right where my wifes knee hits. Normally it is ok, but with the extra 3" of the snapshot, it can press against her knee. Our insurance rates are good though to begin with. It only runs about 230 for every 6 months for full coverage. liability is 5 bucks cheaper month. So we went full coverage with glass breakage.

Yeah I am going to be near stock. Cat back, possibly CAI. Mainly just looking at stuff that will give us better highway mileage that will pay for itself. We live so far out in the country we drive 20 minutes to get to town.

Ok, now i think I have narrowed don what I am going to get. To sumarize, i have a 03 xlt with the 5.4, 3.73 rear, 4WD.
Start with this
http://www.jcwhitney.com/airaid-throttle-body-spacer/p2005659.jcwx?filterid=d612y2003j1#Reviews
Then this:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/performance-cold-air-intake-system/p2005567.jcwx?filterid=d612y2003j1
Then
Cat Back exhaust.
Then
superchips 1865 flashpaq tuner
Then
3/2 leveling kit.
I need to get everything ironed out this weekend, because I am placing the order on Monday. I will then be taking the factory rims up to have them powdercoated black. The aluminum rims look like plastic to me.
