I was wondering that, the only one that could have would have been me. I had it in my pocket so maybe I sat down in a way the buttons got pressed. I now stopped keeping in in my front pants pocket and will take it out of my pocket and put it away and see what happens.

I’ve set the alarm off on mine more times than I can count while the fob has been in my pocket. I’ve opened the tailgate and locked the doors as well, just not as often as the alarm. Not sure why it’s usually the alarm but at least the kids get a kick out if it.

Too bad this feature, much like the power running boards, cannot be turned off using the instrument panel settings. While testing out a trailer hitch mount bike rack we bought, I inadvertently tripped it several times. Also, with the bike on the rack, the rear sensor beeps at me when in reverse because it sees the tires. Some of the bells & whistles come with oddities.

The power running boards can be turned off in the IP settings if you don’t want them to deploy.

Yes I know that. I was trying to say it would be nice if the same were true for the power rear hatch (and a handful of other features) without having to use ForScan.

Sorry. Must have misinterpreted your prior post that said "Too bad this feature, much like the power running boards, cannot be turned off using the instrument panel settings." Agree it would be nice to completely disable the power tailgate in the IP as well.

Mine did both up and down by itself. Realized it was Not related to kick feature. Ford finally acknowledged their is a problem with a relay on some Expeditions. Dealer replaced the relay and the problem disappeared. Talk to your dealer.

This is a common issue, and many (myself included) have disconnected the antenna under the rear bumper to avoid inadvertent actuation. I was tired of getting hit in the back of the head while unloading cargo, and also was concerned it may open into my closed garage door and cause damage to the lift gate. See the attached thread about how to disconnect the antenna if you decide to do so.

https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/rear-hatch-operability.37909/page-2

No need to disconnect the antenna - you can Enable/Disable the Automatic Tailgate in Advanced Settings. We've never had the problem the OP has but we do disable the tailgate when towing a bike rack in case it open when the rack is hitched.

One of the earlier posters noted that disabling the automatic tailgate in the IP only disables the motors, but not the power latch mechanism. We'll have to experiment and see if it unlatches and stays unlatched if you use the kick sensor with the motors disabled.

Mine just randomly opens when I'm sitting in it. The first time it happened, I though my husband was playing a joke with me at the gym (scared the s*** out of me). Then I sat there for 10 more minutes and it opened 5 times. Today at the post office it opened about 15 times. I've tried locking the doors, shutting engine down... I have no idea...

See post #3 on this thread if you want to disconnect the antenna for the kick to open feature so you'll never have to deal with it acting up again.

I'm having the same frustrating issues with this "feature." Sounds like the only available option is to disconnect that antenna.

Wondering, has anyone had trouble with the dealer after having done so (i.e., void your warranty) or any other undesired side effects (i.e., is anything else in the electrical chain dependent on that antenna being connected)?

I have has zero issues with mine and cannot see a warranty issue either. For the time it takes you could plug it back in before going to a dealer. To keep mine clean I sealed the plug with dielectric grease to keep corrosion out of it.
