Could be a few things. Thermostat could be bad, heater core could be clogged, or the blender door could be stuck. I would start with the easiest - replace the thermostat. Then again, I dont know much about these Expys and the thermostat might be hard to change...these are just opinions.

All the above are the best and easiest starting points. Check the thermostat first and I,d recommend changing it if it has not been. Its not expensive and should be easy to do.

start with the thermostat, its cheap like $7 and about 5 min to change

just the 3 bolts, also make sure to get the replacement gasket

thanks guys for the info, but if my thermistate was bad ,wouldnt my truck run hot?

Not necisarily if the thermostat is stuck OPEN the truck will NOT get up to full operating temp. If the thermostat is stuck closed then it would get hot.

Have you checked to see if the REAR HEAT is working? If it is then you could probably rule out the thermostat and jump to the blend door or a pluged heater core.

ok, i will check the thermistate 1st and yes cold air is coming out the back too.

If cold air is coming out of the rear as well I would definatley do the thermostat, and you can probably rule out the blend door because it is not an isolated problem to one zone or the other and both zones have blend doors.

It could be plugged heater cores thou, after you change the thermostat fill it with water and run a good cleaner like the prestone cleaner through the sytem and flush it really good after then top off with antifreeze.

Carfully grab the heater hoses if one is hot and one is cool or cold then the core is blocked if both are hot then the door is bad

Did u fix it?

Shoota,

How you making out?

After days of fun and games, t-stat replaces, rear core replacement, flushes and stuff, could not get heat from dash or from rear zone, (99 XLT)

Mechanic says that my top and bottom radiator hoses were not getting hot enuff. He had some sort of hand-held, laser emitting LED thermometer, he just pointed the light on to the hose, and got the temp.

He said it was my water pump. I thought he was nuts, but had exhausted all other possibilities., so he replaced pump, problem solved.

The impellers on the pump were worn off, causing low temp.

Go figure.
