I am looking to buy a 1st gen expedition 4.6L with 2wd. I will be using it as a weekday vehicle and drive my v6 mustang on the weekends. The suv will also be the tow vehicle for track days with the stang and long distance shows. You are probably wondering why about now on the mustang so here is it's background as well. I have also posted a few questions about my targeted suv in the 1st gen threads.

I started the build by designing and having a custom single turbo kit constructed.

In hopes of having this on my original engine until I found a new engine it took some time but decided against it and went and found a 2000 3.8l online to begin construction on.

A few friends and I worked to break it down and then after that it was pretty much me building the engine but a lot help came from my buddy that allowed me to keep the engine in his garage during this time.

Through a series of good luck finds I soon had a nice stream of parts coming in, heads, lower intake and rockers from hiposilver. The 4.2L kit and cam came from other users on a few different websites. Have to put in here that I mostly with help from a few others built this engine not from a shop.

The engine started coming together quickly until it sat for a few weeks waiting on the install day. Starting on a Wednesday it was back up and running by Monday.

Video of dyno times will be coming soon.

Interesting build! You won't see a lot of mustangs with your particular combo. What inspired you to start with a V6? Just to be different? I am sure you will get asked this alot at the track :). I would be concerned with the t5 holding up to the torque of that turbo v6. I broke mine twice babying it though it did last several years each time. Looks like a quality build and it should put down some decent #'s.

Oh and welcome to the Expy/mustang forum..:hmm: More than a few in here that have built mustangs. For towing your mustang I would recommend a 5.4l expy as they are better equiped to tow. More torque and stronger tranny. The combo of the stang and trailer will likely top 5,000 lbs.

well the 4.6L will be getting a rear mount t70 for a sort of eco boost helper setup.

I have had the mustang for about 6 years now and have been doing the mods the entire way such as fully interior swap and most of the exterior has been changed. I really loved the v6 engine and once i did research on it i learned it could be a nice power house if i did a nice build up and a bit of a turbo setup. The rear should be good up to 700hp and i am looking to touch that so i am not sure what i will do, but for now i will try to keep it at about 500hp maybe more, need to see how it does when dyno tuned.

Old pic with the old badging on it.
