Hey all!

I have a used 2018 Platinum with 119k mi on it. Recently, the rear passenger door had issues where it wouldn’t unlock from the outside even though the door was unlocked (from the buttons inside or from key fob). We were able open the door from the inside but not the outside. Now, it’s not opening either way. You can hear the door trying to unlock when you use the handle but it just won’t open. Any suggestions on how to open it?

Thanks!

My 2018 has the same problem. Will not open from inside or outside. Right rear door only has this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

IF you can get the door open, take the door card off, and peer inside. I'll bet that some linkage has come loose and the latching mechanism is no longer connected to either door handle. Not a particularly complex procedure, probably a YouTube tutorial out there.

It is unlikely both the inner and outer door handle cables are disconnected. First I would make sure the door is unlocked- compare the lock knob to the other side. Assuming it is I would put the window down and use a bore scope to see what's going on. From there I would try to fashion a hook to release the latch. I've had to remove several door cards from stuck doors when I was a tech. They all suffered some damage taking them off with the door closed (but they weren't Expeditions).

Any update on how you got your door open? I had the same thing happen to me yesterday and haven't been able to figure out how to open it. I am hoping to figure out some way to open it on my own before I have to take it somewhere.
