Hey there everyone. We bought a New EL XLT on July 31st. The ac quit working the first week, and was said to be a Scharder valve. That was replaced and now the ac works, but it blow icy cold then warm, icy then warm. The dealer claims to have reset the computer, but the problem is still going. Please help. I am giving them once last chance to fix it then Im contact the Arkansas Lemon Law.
HELP???

System may be low on refrigerant causing the low pressure switch to cycle on and off. That can cause the cold/warm cycle you have.

In theory they tested that as they did have to recharge the system already. What is so strange is that it blows icy icy cold then warm, icy icy cold then warm.

I'm going to assume that by new you mean a 2015 Expy. If not which year are we dealing with? They should have a master tech that can diagnose the a/c problem. If not go to another dealer quickly.

AC issues

Yes the Exp is a 15.
Thanks so much. Recently the AC started whistling while on non recirc air. Ford put in a new heat duct and that fixed the issue. However the AC still blows ICY cold then warm back and forth. I have had it in 2 times more at a different dealer and they don't seem to do anything about it. The compressor is cyclling on and off on and off. The system is charged correctlly as i have had it pro tested at the dealer and an ASE shop. I am at witts end. I have filed the complaint with the lemon law, and will wait and see. Help with any other thoughts.
BTW it only does this when driving/ starting stopping and accelerating. When the vehicle is parked, it blow perfectly cold.

Ask them to check the engine's electrical system and performance while the a/c is cycling on and off. If the pcm detects an issue with the engine or charging system it will deactivate the a/c to ensure there is enough power produced from the engine.

Thanks for the information. The issue is the system works perfectly while the vehicle is sitting still. Can the dealer check the electrical system while the vehicle is in motion? This is where the problem lies. When you press the gas to go forward the ac compressor turns off then on again, creating the warm/cold issue.
Thanks

Would you consider yourself as having a lead foot? Are you noticing this more as you are the first car leaving a red light, or as you are accelerating onto a freeway on-ramp? Reason I ask, it is perfectly normal for the (power robbing) A/C clutch to disengage at heavy throttle input.

I've not driven the V6 Expedition, but our 5.4L does kill the compressor at heavy to wide-open throttle. Has since new. Never really conducted any kind of scientific experiment, but throttle input of more than 70-80% or more I suppose kills it. I've been to Harrison, its hilly, so this could be normal. Have you or your dealer duplicated this on another 2015?

Thanks for the info. No we aren't lead feet.. too old for that.. however, any acceleration, or gas pedal input causes the compressor to go on and off. Its most annoying. Any change in rpm causes the problem. Ford says its normal. What a crock!
Thanks

I have a 2015 EL about 3 months old, I noticed the air was not as cold as I expected so took it in to have it looked at. They recharged the system and told me that occasionally they don't get filled correctly on the line. It made a huge difference. I don't get any change in the temp when idling or accelerating etc. Its certainly something that should get fixed. I did have to leave the car in for a couple of days while they tested for leaks also.
