Hi I'm an American living in the Philippines, and I have a really beautiful and clean 2000 Expedition XLT.

It is running perfectly, EXCEPT it is starting on the second crank, not the first.

Service engine light came on, and we read the codes, which were the lean 171 and 174 codes. The recommendation was to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

The environment is very dusty, and hot. Plus there was a massive volcano eruption 20 years ago and there is a lot of pumice dust around.

  1. I cleaned my Mass Air Flow Sensor with the correct cleaner, and now the service engine light is off and staying off after a 100 mile trip.
  2. undid the battery cable for 15 minutes, and light is staying off.
  3. Car has new plugs, new gas filter, new oil change, etc.
  4. I've run a few bottles of injector cleaner through it, and we are using higher octane gas to just hopefully clean out any issues
  5. Battery is brand new.

Why is the car possibly still starting on the second crank like it's lean?
Not sure if the computer just needs a few cycles to reset itself.

Any help is welcome!
