Hi,

I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition with the 5.4L V8. When it is above 85 degrees outside I have a problem. When I start the car the engine is roaring and after a minute it will idle like normal. When I start driving and am in first gear I will get up to 3000rpm before it shifts. The engine sounds like a tornado. After a while and I get going it seems to calm down. Sometimes on a hot day after I make a few stops it will continue (High Revs) and I'll have very little power starting from a dead stop. When the temperature is below 85 I have no problems. I thought it was the transmission and took it to the dealer who ran a check and there are no codes, no problems. (right). Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this. Is this an Idle problem as it occurs as soon as I start the car? thanks for your help!

Possibly a vacuum leak. Check the PCV tube assembly. Especially the rubber elbows.

um.... the tornado sound is probably the engine driven fan engaging. It does pull down on the power quite a bit and makes a hell of a noise. This is very normal in warm weather, the design of the fan clutches also will do the same thing when cold because the silicone fluid inside them gets too thick when cold and makes the clutch engage as if it is hot untill the engine runs for a few seconds.

Ah yes, one of those loud ass start ups. You start up, step on the gas a little, and it sounds like you're about to take off :D

Thanks for your input! I'll check the PVC tubes. The info on the fan engaging is great! I had no idea and the dealer didn't even suggest this. I really appreciate your responses!
