This all started with a simple battery change. First symptom was my wife was coming home one morning from working out and said my headlights were flashing as she was coming in. So I go out and check and here some relays clicking, I tried to start the engine and it was dead. I have another vehicle so later that afternoon I check some things and decide to replace the battery and connectors. Everything seems fine and we even drive it out that night. I get up the next morning and I can see the lights flashing again. I go out and the battery is dead again. I jump it off and move it to the shop to charge the battery. Later that day I try to start it and it will not start. It will crank but not start. So I walk away and think for a little while and come back to it. This time it starts and goes straight to 4500 rpm. It's been that way for a couple of days and now the battery is dead again. I've read all the stories about the leaking windshields and gem modules. We did have alot of ice followed by a 7" rain. What has me stumped is the 4500 rpm idle. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jagdad see if you notice any water on the floor under the fuse panel You can also reach up and feel around the area of the fuse panel with all the rain and ice you have had it does sound like the typical fuse panel/gem problem

Morriz kindly provide more information

Thanks bedrck46. I am going to remove the fuse/gem module this evening and see if I can see any evidence of water damage.

Where is the best place to find a replacement gem? I thought I seen a link on one of the other threads about a good replacement but I have been unable to find it again.

If you notice any signs of water I would remove both the fuse block and the GEM they are attached Then remove the GEM from the fuse block and remove the cover on the GEM and inspect the circuit board for any signs of damage. Then take the fuse block and check it for water buy turning it every direction you can and shake it to see if there is water in it If so get a hair dryer and dry it out. I would do this and then re-install before replacing the GEM. If there is water in the fuse block it will cause the same things to happen as a bad GEM would
