Hey all

The HO Ecoboost in Stealth and Timberline models , does it require the premium 91 octane fuel, a must?!

Ford says the same thing about all the Eco-Boosts -- identical language in my plebeian 2017 3.5EB (not even "HO!" :) ) . 87 Octane is all you need..

I suspect any perceived performance increase is an example of the placebo effect a phenomenon where a patient's condition -- or in this case a performance increase -- is due to their perception of a treatment, rather than the treatment itself.

(I have no idea how that got highlighted.)

Personally haven't noticed any performance differences running 93 Octane even when towing in high summer temperatures.

Your perceptions will vary. And I'm sure someone will post some dyno numbers showing how wrong I am. :)

If I were here, you would know it !
A "must"...probably not, in general. However, as the mad squirrel said, for best performance, probably yes....dyno scores nothwithstanding....

I have found that in most vehicles, especially smaller displacement HO models, the "requirement" is related to the fact that most of those motors typically run hotter (inside) than standard versions, and the higher octane fuel helps with cleaner starting and better acceleration by burning the fuel more completely and resisting the build up of carbon & residue, thereby making the motor run a tad smoother & last a little longer...

But it is generally different for every vehicle. So you would need to try the different octanes and keep a record of your MPG's, acceleration rates etc to know for sure....

And for fun, you could always try a few tanks of REAL premium, aka 93 octane, if that doesn't give you a little more kick in the butt, nothin will :D
