I live in Houston and had to drive through a flooded area today that was somewhat deep. Do you guys have any recommendations on what to check or replace? Does anyone know what costs are to replace transmission fluid and is it necessary? Thanks in advance.

Well ****... that's starting to seem like a recurring theme in Houston lately, no?

Guess that explains the hella tempting house prices... was sorta contemplating a move there recently.

Hmm, so stick to the hilly parts, then? Were there any?

And everybody laughed at the new Defender when it was released a few weeks ago. It'll never be used for more than running errands, but it has a 35.4" water fording spec, ha! They'll sell like crazy in Houston...

I would be more concerned about your front and rear axle lube. Check where the breather hose goes (how high) in comparison to water height. Honestly I’d drain and refill both differentials at this point to play it safe. Water wreaks quick havoc on gear sets. Trans should be ok, but you could always pull or have someone pull the little dipstick on the side and check fluid color.

I’d wear that thing out.... it would be my dirt queen. My wife may kill me if I even talk about moving to the 130 model when they come out in 2022.

You can probably mod a lifted expedition to same or better.

Those bastard offspring of an illicit affair between Ford Flex and Mini Cooper are just too fugly

PS oh hey a stock Ford Raptor from several years back could do 32"... add a lift kit and voila

Or 33.5" for the current 2019 model

Same **** at same or lower price, but MUUCH nicer package.

Idk, I think street legal tho but don’t quote me on that.

Not familiar with Duck boats? They are WWII landing craft. A tour company used to operate a fleet here in Pittsburgh for land and river tours, but after the Branson, Missouri tragedy with 17 deaths when a Duck boat sank during a storm, they decided it wasn't worth the liability. They required both DOT and Coast Guard certifications due to their dual use.

I was in Branson the week before that happened and rode the Duck Boats. Spooky...

I’m familiar with the craft itself and the accident you mentioned but not the full legality of its road use.

Not really. Houston is mostly flat.

Thank you for the advice. Will likely go this route.

Be careful with the Land Rovers. I would lease them not buy them. They aren't known for high quality and are now owned by TaTa. A friend has one has a discovery sport and is having all kinds of electronics issues with it. The 1st service was $800 plus they needed to change out the back brake (rotors too) at 15,000 miles. It was quoted like $700 for the break job.

Yeah I spent about 5 minutes looking into them and they seem obviously problematic at best. Looks like the Bronco will get our attention for a potential wife-mobile when they are out.
