I'm changing the horn assembly on my wife's 03 Expedition because it has sounded muffled for the past 6 months or so. It would only do it from time to time before this and return to its normal tone. Now it just gets weaker and weaker. I just got the brand new Ford replacement and was wondering which way is the best to tackle this. I removed the guard over the radiator and I have big hands and it seemed impossible to do. It seems like it will be difficult from the bottom too. I didn't try because its parked in snow at the moment and wanted to be sure before I pull it in my tight a$$ garage and find out the bumper has to come off.

Yeah it's on the passenger side. I thought about removing the headlight but it didn't seem to get me low enough to access the horn. I will try it though. Thanks!

On the 3rd-gen most of that stuff behind the bumper cover is designed to be serviced by removing the headlight, I'd imagine the 2nd-gen is at least similar.

I did mine from underneath. Laying on the ground in front of the front right tire, look up and the horns are right there.

I believe that removing the headlight housing would be a good way to do it as well.

However......... Be VERY CAREFUL if you remove the headlight to access the horn that way. There is an adjustment screw at the back of the housing the fits into a slot on the header panel. Be sure to loosen that screw (without completely removing) or you will damage the slot that it fits into and never be able to get the vertical adjustment on your headlight right again.

Looks like I will be trying from the bottom first then. I have pretty long arms so it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully I can try it tomorrow if I don't work too late. We are starting to get more sun here now. Can't wait til the 19 to 20 hour sunny, summer days!

Oooooo, 24 hours of darkness in the winter. Not sure I could deal with that. I would end up hibernating like a bear.

Here in Anchorage we don't get that much darkness. At the most during the peak of darkness in the winter 17 to 18 hours but it's still a buzz kill. Very north Alaska, like Barrow, get the full days of darkness though. Then it's reversed in the summer where we will get 19 to 20 hours of sun and Barrow will get sun all day long at the peak of sunlight.
For instance I took these pictures in the summer of 2015 at around 1:30 am. I was in love! Spend all day in the garage without a clue what time it is judging by sunlight.

Yeah the winter time will drive you crazy but the summer will make up for it. I'm just tired of the snow. It's more than likely going to snow into April. You just need some dark curtains for summer time and you'll sleep just fine. From 2am to 4:30am it is still a lil bit of light from the sun but by 5am the sun is out full force lol.
