It was warm out today got to 102 . Well warm for here. Our 01 was bogging pretty good off the line. Fine one you got your foot into it. But a general lack of power . Intake air temp read 139. Normal??

As IAT and/or engine temps rise it pulls ignition timing advance progressively. This can create a noticeable drop in power.

Not sure if you have "cold air intake" or not. If its pulling air from the engine compartment it will be much hotter while sitting at idle. As soon as you get moving it will drop due to air flow through the engine bay.

Yes supposed cold air intake. That would make sense. Thanks

Thats why I left the factory set up and enhanced the Gotts mod by actually forming the PVC that goes through the fender to go all the way inside and conform to the shape of the outer fender skin. this stops the air rushing by the tube and directs it into the intake...what you are experiencing is nothing abnormal on these trucks when it gets hot...mine does the same thing and I have a programmer running timing 2 degrees advanced.

Oh wow, I may have to look into doing this. I run true ducted cold air on my jeep so I havent really experienced this. I have a programmer I can adjust timing on, would you play with timing on a stock setup?

ENGINE - 5.4L - ENGINE LACKS POWER WHEN OPERATING IN HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES ABOVE 38C (100F)

Publication Date: JUNE 13, 2002

FORD: 2000-2002 EXPEDITION, F-150

ISSUE:
Some vehicles equipped with the 5.4L-2V engine may exhibit a lack of power condition when operating in ambient temperatures above 38°C (100°F). This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration which retards the ignition timing to prevent detonation when the Inlet Air Temperature (IAT) reaches 60°C (140°F) or above. This may be more pronounced during stop-and-go driving.

ACTION:
Verify the condition. Reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration and on 2000 and 2001 F-150's, install body plugs behind Coolant Overflow Bottle if missing. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

For 2000-2002 F-150's and Expeditions equipped with a 5.4L 2V engine, if a lack of power occurs only when the IAT is above 60°C (140°F), reprogram the PCM to the latest level calibration listed in this TSB.

For 2000 and 2001 F150's, install Body Plugs (383181-S and N807093-S) behind the Coolant Overflow Bottle. Refer to Figure 1 for location and plug button installation. These plugs will reduce the engine compartment heat moving into the air cleaner inlet area.

Body Plug Installation

Remove air cleaner inlet. Refer to Section 303-12.
Remove jack handle.
Remove upper radiator sight shield.
Disconnect radiator overflow hose from radiator to degas bottle.
Position degas bottle away from body plug hole area.
Install body plugs in location shown in illustration.
Position back degas bottle Torque to 9 N-m (80 Lb-in).
Connect radiator overflow hose.
Install upper radiator sight shield.
Install jack handle.
Install air cleaner inlet. Refer to Section 303-12.

Thankyou very much, I just got it reflashed at ford for a sixpack :) , I also found another cause of the problem, ( well this is what was doing it) the iat was turn sideways, so flow through the sensor was blocked, I turned it with the flow and it immediatly remedied the problem) I talked with edge and k&n tech support. I had no idea it would make any difference
